Ron Brown
Principal Toxicologist

Ron Brown is a toxicologist with 35 years of experience in regulatory toxicology and risk assessment. He retired from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) after 25 years of service, where he served as the senior toxicologist responsible for developing and reviewing toxicological risk assessments of extractable and leachable (E&L) compounds from medical devices. Prior to joining the FDA, Ron was a Senior Associate at the ILSI Risk Science Institute. He is founding member and former President of the Medical Device and Combination Products Specialty Section of the Society of Toxicology and former President of the Dose-Response Specialty Section of the Society for Risk Analysis. Ron now directs Risk Science Consortium, LLC, which provides consultation and training in toxicological risk assessment and computational toxicology.
DAY 1: March 5th, 2026
SESSION: Using Read Across and Computational Models for the Toxicological Risk Assessment of E&L Compounds
Toxicity data are critical to evaluating the risks associated with patient exposure to E&L compounds released from medical devices and pharmaceutical packaging. However, when the toxicity data are unavailable, New Approach Methods (NAMs), including in silico (computational) models, are promising tools to predicting the toxicity of E&L compounds without relying solely on traditional animal testing. This presentation will not only describe the use of the Read Across and QSAR in silico models, but will also provide practical guidance on how to use model-derived predictions of toxicity in a safety assessment of E&L compounds.
